Practical training is conducted over a period of six months and is a step for you as a doctor to apply for Swedish licensure through the National Board of Health and Welfare.

This is not a permanent position, but a limited period during which your medical knowledge and skills will be assessed.

Formal requirements to apply for practical training

You who are applying for practical training are a doctor with foreign education outside the EU/EEA and have passed the National Board of Health and Welfare's knowledge test.

The following documents must be attached to the application:

• Decision from the National Board of Health and Welfare regarding 6 months of practical training
• Certificate in Swedish language equivalent to Swedish 3/Swedish as a second language 3, level C1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) or a course/exam that qualifies for higher education
• CV
• Cover letter

If you are in Sweden and have some form of work permit/residence permit for studies from the Migration Agency, we ask you to inform us of this in your application.

Implementation

The International Office receives all expressions of interest and then contacts the appropriate clinic/health center to see if they have the capacity to offer a place for practical training. The International Office does not have its own places to allocate. The availability of places within Region Östergötland varies over time. This means that unfortunately, we cannot offer practical training to everyone who applies. We therefore recommend that you also apply to other regions.

If the clinic/health center has the capacity to accept a doctor for practical training, you will be invited for an interview. After that, the head of the department will decide whether practical training can be offered.
